[NEWS] ReaderPlus+ for Google Chrome goes public! [PlusOne for Google Reader]

Howdy you... peoples!

Well, (most of) you liked my BuzzOne extension so much, that I thought: Hey, sleeping is so overrated, I could do the fricken same thing for Google Reader! (even if Google will probably introduce +1 for Reader soon and I'll have done the whole thing for nothing)

The only thing that sucks is, that this feedproxy crap currently screws up some of the +1'd posts... so not the real post gets +1, but the redirect-thingy from fricken feedproxy.... (and others like feedburner and that stuff.)

Be assured that I'm currently looking into it, but for now, you can have a look at

What it does:
It adds a plusOne button to Google Reader, so you can plusOne a Blogpost right in Reader.
How it works:
Click the plusOne link to reveal the button.
Why do I have to click twice?
Because of perfomance issues connected to loading the jscripts (try the twitter plusOne and load 100 tweets, you'll see how slow it gets n some systems)
But I want to just click once, because I'm too weak or too lazy to do it twice! -.-
Shut up.

Feel free to request features, but it is highly likely that I don't have the time to integrate you wishes or fix all issues.

If you have coding experience and hints on how to improve performance, please have a look on the code and let me know!

=====CHANGELOG=====

INITIAL RELEASE

--------------------
known issues:

- doesn't resolve URL's that were masked by feedproxy, don't know what this crap is for anyway... Will hopefully find a solution to fix that in the next release
- loads sometimes "not that fast" (it always depends on how clogged your connection is and if reader has finished loading external scripts)
- might not be (almost certainly is not) compatible with themes or other extensions that radically change the structure of reader, but you can test it and report incompatibilities so I can try to fix that
- Jumps to the top of the reader post -> not good, priority 1 to fix!

This is NOT a 100% bullet-proof tested, highly optimized extension. It is an alpha version, so probably unstable and not always that reliable.

SAFETY ADVICE:

Wear your safety goggles at ALL TIMES.
Skin contact: In case of skin contact, wash area with soap and water. Rinse well with water.
Ingestion: If ingested, consult a physician and induce vomiting. If you experience dizziness and nausea, you might turn into a robot unicorn in a matter of hours. This is usually not considered as problematic, because robot unicorns are gentle, noble creatures and awesome.

WARNING:
In 10 out of 2000 cases, pirates may spontaneously appear and rob your booty. Not that one. The other one.

Beware of Spacemonkeys. Especially if they are radioactive, have superpowers and wear eyepatches.

If anything fails, breaks or doesn't work: It was a witch.

So where can I get it?
Here at the Chrome store

Cool idea! This is the +1 I was looking for from day one.
Just installed and it's not showing for me. Have tested on Chrome 12.0.742.91 and 14.0.790.0 (canary).

(and thanks a thousand for all the compliments, I don't deserve it though as it is just half-baked software) :)

I've tried that already, and Ctrl - F5, also closed the browser and cleared the cache.

I'll try on another laptop and let you know if that works.

@supervan yeah, please do that... do you have any other extensions running that influence Reader? Like "Reader Plus"? This themeing extension...
What Chrome version do you use? Stable? (v12)
Try to click on a plusone and wait for a minute and check if it appears... maybe there is something clogging the jscript execution stack

Yes and I've tested by disabling all of my extentions. Not running stable (versions mentioned in my first comment). Could it have something to do with being in the UK? I have to go to Google.com to see +1 in search results (nothing in google.co.uk)

@supervan... phew, good question... maybe... I set the US version as default for me, but usually it shouldn't be a problem.. do you see the plusone button on Android market or youtube?

NoName said...

I think I was able to reproduce the problem... stay tuned!

Ok, it might or might not work now/soon.
I fixed a bug and the update is now rolling out in stages :)

Cool, let me know when to test/download update. (Plus one working for me on Youtube and Android Market)

@supervan It "should" be out by now though Google is currently reviewing it because I use the +1 code outside their button. Hmmmm I hope it works now... Could you do a screenshot and upload it somewhere when it still doesn't work? even better would be if you could copy the html code from one entire reader-post and mail it to me (f.rohrweck [at] gmail dot com) if you'd be that kind... it might help me a lot...
