[HOW TO] Get a .tar.gz / tgz from Magento connect

Well... once again I ran into an interesting issue.
(and I'll skip the cursing this time)

Sometimes you need the module package of an Magento installation, but what if it is just available via Magento connect?

Well... at first you gotta get the extension key from Magento connect

The url they give you is fake, so don't bother trying...

Instead, use the given package name to construct an URL after following scheme:

http://connect20.magentocommerce.com/community/[PACKAGE NAME]/[VERSION]/[FULL PACKAGE NAME].tgz

this would mean for our example:

http://connect20.magentocommerce.com/community/Mage_Ogone_Official/1.0.3/Mage_Ogone_Official-1.0.3.tgz

and... tadaaa, you got your .tgz archive!

Enjoy

[NEWS] Discuss on Buzz Button-Generator for Chrome goes public

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand another one.

With this extension you can easily generate a pretty neat "Discuss on Buzz" button.
You simply right-click on the post-time of a Buzz and select "Generate Discuss on Buzz"
You will also be able to directly launch the extension from the toolbar and manually change the permalink it should refer to.

Copy&Paste the generated HTML code anywhere you want. Preferably there, where it works. In the HTML Tab of your Blogger Post-Editor for example.

This is not extensively tested software and the icon isn't as pretty as others.

Even if it looks like Google's stuff, it is not official Google's stuff. I just imitated the Google-style so it doesn't look like me after a night of coding.
(not like sh*t)

I bet there are a million bugs in there, but I try to patch them. Some time. I don't know when.

Yeah. If the extension nom noms your dinner, that's probably a bug. If it starts insulting you, that's probably a feature.
It might happen that this extension, due to it's messy code, becomes self aware and tries to kill you.

Don't panic. Remain calm and use a sticker to cover the extension in your toolbar.
If it launches nuclear weapons and wants to wipe out humanity, it is always a good idea to Duck&Cover.

Cheers.

Ah... you can get it HERE on the Chrome Webstore
It might take a few minutes until it is live!

[NEWS] ReaderPlus+ Extenstion for Google Chrome reaches Beta [plusOne for Google Reader]

Yay, we've reached the Beta state! :D

I've just uploaded version 1.0.0 to the Chrome Webstore (this means it will take 1 or 2 hours to replicate over the Google-servers).

Following things have been fixed since the initial release:

#UPDATE ALPHA 2:
Hopefully fixed the jumpy jumpy bug.
#UPDATE BETA 1:
Fixed some layout issues
Cleaned up dead code
Fixed layout in search results
Minor speedup

So far so good, but I still haven't got much feedback yet (if it works at all...)
So if it works or if you experience problems, please let me know... I'll try to fix what I'm able to fix.

And there are still witches and evil monkeys around... beware of the monkeys. They sling their poop. I'm just sayin'. (you are warned! If they sling their poop at you, I'll just say: Told you so!)

Get it here.

[NEWS] ReaderPlus+ for Google Chrome goes public! [PlusOne for Google Reader]

Howdy you... peoples!

Well, (most of) you liked my BuzzOne extension so much, that I thought: Hey, sleeping is so overrated, I could do the fricken same thing for Google Reader! (even if Google will probably introduce +1 for Reader soon and I'll have done the whole thing for nothing)

The only thing that sucks is, that this feedproxy crap currently screws up some of the +1'd posts... so not the real post gets +1, but the redirect-thingy from fricken feedproxy.... (and others like feedburner and that stuff.)

Be assured that I'm currently looking into it, but for now, you can have a look at

What it does:
It adds a plusOne button to Google Reader, so you can plusOne a Blogpost right in Reader.
How it works:
Click the plusOne link to reveal the button.
Why do I have to click twice?
Because of perfomance issues connected to loading the jscripts (try the twitter plusOne and load 100 tweets, you'll see how slow it gets n some systems)
But I want to just click once, because I'm too weak or too lazy to do it twice! -.-
Shut up.

Feel free to request features, but it is highly likely that I don't have the time to integrate you wishes or fix all issues.

If you have coding experience and hints on how to improve performance, please have a look on the code and let me know!

=====CHANGELOG=====

INITIAL RELEASE

--------------------
known issues:

- doesn't resolve URL's that were masked by feedproxy, don't know what this crap is for anyway... Will hopefully find a solution to fix that in the next release
- loads sometimes "not that fast" (it always depends on how clogged your connection is and if reader has finished loading external scripts)
- might not be (almost certainly is not) compatible with themes or other extensions that radically change the structure of reader, but you can test it and report incompatibilities so I can try to fix that
- Jumps to the top of the reader post -> not good, priority 1 to fix!

This is NOT a 100% bullet-proof tested, highly optimized extension. It is an alpha version, so probably unstable and not always that reliable.

SAFETY ADVICE:

Wear your safety goggles at ALL TIMES.
Skin contact: In case of skin contact, wash area with soap and water. Rinse well with water.
Ingestion: If ingested, consult a physician and induce vomiting. If you experience dizziness and nausea, you might turn into a robot unicorn in a matter of hours. This is usually not considered as problematic, because robot unicorns are gentle, noble creatures and awesome.

WARNING:
In 10 out of 2000 cases, pirates may spontaneously appear and rob your booty. Not that one. The other one.

Beware of Spacemonkeys. Especially if they are radioactive, have superpowers and wear eyepatches.

If anything fails, breaks or doesn't work: It was a witch.

So where can I get it?
Here at the Chrome store

HOW TO: Get ChromeOS's Google Talk webapp working on standard Chrome Browser

  1. Install Google Talk from the Webstore

  2. Look at the URL. Notice the ID of the plugin? Copy and paste it into a text editor.
  3. Search on your computer for the folder containing the plugin. The folder name is the same as the ID of the plugin (on windows)
  4. Open all javascript files (js directory) in a text editor and replace all occurrences of "navigator.userAgent.indexOf("CrOS")>=0" with "1" (without quotes)
  5. Save all and restart Chrome
  6. Open Gtalk from the appsmenu -> done!

  7. To see the message window, simply resize the popup
  8. BEWARE: It is just a hack, it may completely fail. Improvements welcome.
Don't expect all functionality to work.... or any ^^

Enjoy! ;)

EDIT: If anyone knows how to enable the flag for floating panel support, the app may work just like on ChromeOS. The old flag got kicked out (--apps-panel)
